Mit 25 Jahren gewann Keir Mather, ein Mitglied der Labour Party, die Nachwahlen in Selby und Ainsty und wurde der jüngste Abgeordnete im Unterhaus.

Mather wuchs in der Nähe von Selby auf und war schon immer sehr aktiv in der Politik. Er gründete eine Labour-Gruppe für junge Leute. Nachdem er an der Universität Oxford Geschichte und Politik studiert hatte, arbeitete er als Forscher und Berater. Mather liebt das Reden und er unterstützt die Rugby-Liga-Mannschaft Hull Kingston Rovers. Er sieht im Sport eine Einheit und möchte seine Gemeinde vertreten.

Mathers Mutter ist zuversichtlich, was seine politische Zukunft angeht. Sie sagt, dass ihr Sohn eines Tages sogar Premierminister werden könnte. Parteiführer sagen, dass er Potenzial und Verständnis für die Probleme seiner Generation hat.
