Eine neue Fußballliga in Afrika, die African Football League, ist in Tansania gestartet.
Die Liga besteht aus acht Mannschaften und begann mit einem Spiel zwischen Simba und Al Ahly. Die beiden Teams spielten unentschieden und werden in Kairo erneut gegeneinander antreten. Diese Liga unterscheidet sich ein wenig von dem, was FIFA-Präsident Gianni Infantino für 2020 vorgeschlagen hat. Er schlug ein Turnier mit 24 Mannschaften und einem hohen Preisgeld von 200 Millionen Dollar vor. Seine Idee war es, Spitzentalente in Afrika zu halten. Aber die eigentliche Liga ist ein K.O.-Turnier. Sie wird 17 Tage dauern, jede teilnehmende Mannschaft erhält 1 Million Dollar und der Sieger erhält 4 Millionen Dollar.
Die Liga hat nur einen Sponsor: Visit Saudi, die Tourismusbehörde von Saudi-Arabien.
