EU boss visits the Poland-Belarus border – level 3

08-09-2025 07:00

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen visited Poland and pledged strong support to countries bordering Russia and Belarus.

She announced plans for a modern European Union budget over the next seven years, which will significantly increase funding for migration and border management, military mobility, and defense investment.

Countries directly bordering Russia and Belarus will receive additional European support, because Europe’s borders are a shared responsibility. Von der Leyen detailed that investment in migration and border protection will triple, funding for military mobility will increase tenfold, and defense investment overall will rise five times. This strategy aims to strengthen border security and military readiness across the EU, particularly for nations facing direct risks from neighboring regions.

The commitment highlights the EU’s approach to collective responsibility, coordination, and long-term strategic planning to manage potential threats. By investing in both civil and military infrastructure, the European Union seeks to maintain stability and enhance cooperation among member states facing geopolitical pressures.
