Die Vereinten Nationen haben zugestimmt, dass Japan aufbereitetes radioaktives Wasser aus dem AKW Fukushima ins Meer leiten darf.

Die Internationale Atomenergiebehörde (IAEA) hat eine zweijährige Prüfung vorgenommen und ist zu dem Schluss gekommen, dass es sicher ist, das Wasser in den Ozean zu leiten. Es wird nur minimale Auswirkungen auf die Natur haben. Japan besteht darauf, dass die Wasserfreigabe sicher ist, weil Experten die meisten radioaktiven Elemente entfernt haben und nur Tritium übrig geblieben ist. Doch japanische Fischereiverbände, Nachbarländer und China sind besorgt über den Plan.

Japan hat das Datum für die Wasserfreigabe nicht bekannt gegeben. Das Land wartet auf die offizielle Genehmigung durch die nationale Atomaufsichtsbehörde.
