Swiss supercomputer – level 1

26-05-2025 07:00

In Lugano, Switzerland, there is a strong computer called Alps.

It is much stronger than a normal laptop. It helps scientists learn about weather problems like storms and ice melting. Alps uses cold water from a nearby lake to stay cool. The cold water flows through pipes, which cool the computer parts, and then goes back to the lake.

Near the computer is a big dam called Contra Dam. Scientists check the rain and snow there. Scientists use the computer to understand weather changes.

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

How does the Alps computer use water from the nearby lake to cool its parts?
